Hydration

I’m terrible at making sure I drink enough water… I never drink enough fluids throughout the day and now that it’s getting colder out, it’s going to be even harder to make sure that I’m taking in enough to replace what I’m sweating out. Last night my soccer game started at 9:40, so while I did end up sweating a bit, the temperature was in the low 30s so I never felt overheated. I got some good sprints in and even scored a goal, but over a 50 minute game with subs, I only ran 1.66 miles. I barely had anything to drink while I was on the sidelines because I never felt thirsty, so when I got home I had to continue to remind myself to drink more water than I felt like I needed. Even after forcing myself to drink water up until the time I went to bed, I only finished about half a Gatorade bottle (one of those old school green ones with the Gatorade logo like you see on the sidelines at pro sports games).

I became a lot more conscious of my water intake as I was training for my half marathon in October. At the time, Charlotte was still having some pretty warm days (we hit the mid 70’s last week, so nothing’s out of the question) and it’s a lot easier to remember to drink water when you’re hot and thirsty after a run. I even kept a water bottle with me throughout the day so that I could force myself to drink at least one bottle while I was working, and I think that definitely helped. Unfortunately, I’ve gotten out of that habit, so it’s something I need to bring back.

Do you struggle with hydration? Do you have any tips on increasing fluid intake?
