How do you train when away from home?

When I’m at home, I have a pretty standard schedule – I play soccer 3-4 times a week and then do my long runs with a group on Saturday mornings. However, whenever I’m not at home, it’s much harder to adapt – I don’t have as easy access to long run routes (no neighborhood sidewalks to run on and only about a 1 mile loop that’s within a 5 minute drive) and no soccer games to keep me running throughout the week. Plus, shopping for Christmas has thrown an extra wrench into the mix! For my long run tomorrow and next weekend, I’m just going to suck it up and drive to a trail where I know I can get some good mileage in, but I think I’ll have to get a bit more creative for my shorter runs.
